SIGHTS

A feast for the senses in Ljubljana’s Old Town

There’s no better way to explore Ljubljana than through its food. The tour takes place in and around the Old Town – a car-free district made for strolling. As you taste Slovenia’s finest specialties, you’ll also discover the city’s most iconic sights: the Triple Bridge, the Central Market designed by Jože Plečnik, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, and the lively riverbanks of the Ljubljanica river.

a unique blend

At the crossroads of culture

Ljubljana is a city where Germanic order meets Mediterranean ease — elegant architecture, cobbled streets, and a lively café culture blend into a unique, cosmopolitan charm. You will feel this in the architecture and food. With the castle watching from above, you’ll experience the city much like a local – slowly, socially, and always with something delicious in hand.

meeting point

Congress Square

We start in the heart of Ljubljana, at Congress Square, and take a pleasant walk into the Old Town to begin your culinary adventure.

street food

Promenade

First, we’ll taste a Balkan staple – the famous burek, brought to Slovenia during the Yugoslav era.

Wine bar

Central Market

Leaving the modern town, we will cross the Ljubljanica and make our way to the vibrant Central Market. Here we will taste a fine selection of Karst prosciutto from the breezy Mediterranean hills above Trieste, paired with a selection of local cheese. This will be perfectly complemented by a glass of natural orange wine.

traditional

Old Town

No visit to Slovenia is complete without Carniolan sausage. Astronaut Sunita Williams even took this dish with her to the International Space Station – making it the first sausage to ever reach space. Here, we’ll also discover Cviček, a humble yet jolly wine from the rolling hills of southeastern Slovenia.

gourmet pizza

Off the beaten path

Locals know where to find Ljubljana’s very best Neapolitan pizza. In a quaint suburb at the foot of Castle Hill, you’ll see for yourself why it was ranked among Europe’s top 30 pizzerias. Craft beer lovers will also get to taste some of Slovenia’s finest brews.

oyster break

Seminary Cellar

In the cellar of the church seminary, we’ll taste fresh oysters – nature’s little aphrodisiac – paired with Pét-Nat, a naturally sparkling, slightly fizzy wine that’s lively, playful, and full of character. One might say it’s a rather spirited pairing for such a holy setting.

sweet finale

Ljubljanica river banks

In the mood for something traditional, or is a scoop of gelato simply irresistible? It’s a tough choice – but it’s yours to make. One thing’s for sure: whether you go for the traditional gibanica or a refreshing cone, you won’t be left disappointed.
